Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is ECU remapping safe? ⬇️

Yes, ECU remapping is safe when it’s done properly and on a healthy vehicle. A professional remap works within the manufacturer’s safety margins, adjusting parameters like torque, boost, and fuelling in a controlled way, not by pushing the engine to its limits.

That said, remapping is not magic and not risk-free if the car already has problems. Worn clutches, weak turbos, injector issues, fault codes, or poor maintenance can be exposed faster after a remap.

2. Is ECU remapping detectable? ⬇️

Yes, it can be detected. Most modern ECUs keep a log of changes made to the software. If a dealership checks the ECU's checksum (a code to verify data integrity), they can tell if it has been modified. However, in some cases a "patch" can be applied that makes it harder to detect.

3. Will the fuel economy always improve? ⬇️

No, fuel economy does not always improve after an ECU remap.

In normal driving, many cars can become more efficient because increased torque means less throttle is needed to maintain speed. This is most noticeable on diesel engines and during motorway or steady cruising.

However, fuel economy depends mainly on how you drive. If you use the extra power and torque more often, fuel consumption will increase, simple as that.

4. Is ECU remapping worth it? ⬇️

Yes, if you understand what you’re paying for and what to expect.

ECU remapping typically delivers noticeable gains in torque and power, smoother power delivery, better throttle response, and often improved drivability. For many cars, especially turbocharged engines, it’s one of the most cost-effective performance upgrades available.

That said, it’s not worth it if you expect miracles, want to fix mechanical problems with software, or think it turns a worn engine into a new one. A remap enhances what’s already there, it doesn’t repair faults or poor maintenance.

5. Can ECU remap be reversed? ⬇️

Yes, an ECU remap can be reversed.

The original factory software (stock file) can be reinstalled at any time, returning the ECU to standard operation. This is why a proper backup of the original software is essential before any modifications are made.

However, reverting to stock does not always erase all traces of previous programming. Some ECUs may still retain flash counters or programming history that show the ECU has been written to before.

6. Can you do it now if I pay extra? ⬇️

No, not in most cases. This isn’t about money, it’s about availability and doing the job properly.

I don’t work on impulse, urgency, or bribes. ECU work is scheduled, not rushed. Throwing more money at it doesn’t move you to the front of the queue or change how the work is done.

If an express option exists, it’s predefined, clearly priced, and limited. If it doesn’t exist for that service or that day, the answer stays no, regardless of how urgent it feels.

7. I paid the deposit, why did you refuse to remap my car when I turned up? ⬇️

Because a deposit doesn’t override reality. If the car shows faults, errors, or mechanical issues that make a remap unsafe, the job stops there. I won’t tune a vehicle that isn’t healthy just to “get it done.” The deposit secures a slot, not blind approval.

Protecting the engine and my reputation matters more than forcing a remap on a problematic car.

8. You said you could do it at that date and time, then you cancelled. Why? ⬇️

Because that slot was provisional. Without a deposit, nothing is confirmed. I don’t block paid work for “maybe” bookings. If someone else secures the slot with a deposit, they get priority. That’s how a professional schedule works. If you want a guaranteed date and time, you secure it properly.

9. What warranty do you offer? ⬇️

I guarantee that the software changes are done exactly as agreed and that the calibrations are correct. That’s it.

No tuning company can genuinely warranty an engine, gearbox, or vehicle after a remap. If someone tells you they do, it’s usually marketing, when a problem appears, there will be exclusions, loopholes, or the company will simply disappear.

I don’t warranty engines, gearboxes, or vehicles whose history, maintenance, and condition I don’t control. Anyone claiming they “guarantee the engine” after a remap is selling comfort, not truth.

I prefer being honest over saying what you want to hear just to take your money.

10. Can you do something as a test and I’ll pay if I’m happy? ⬇️

No. I don’t work on “try and see.” ECU work isn’t a demo or a free sample. You come decided, not curious. Time, tools, and knowledge are used from the first click, and that work is paid for.

If you’re not sure, don’t book.

11. How long does a remap take? ⬇️

Usually between 1 and 2 hours if the car is healthy and everything goes as it should.

If issues show up, it takes longer or it stops altogether.

I don’t rush ECU work just to fit a stopwatch.

If you want speed over correctness, I’m not your guy.

12. Will I get the deposit back if my ECU is locked? ⬇️

No. The deposit covers the booking, diagnostics, time, and attempted work, not a guaranteed result.

A locked or protected ECU isn’t something I control.

13. Can you give me a discount? ⬇️

No. If there was a discount, it would have been announced already. I don’t bargain at the door or after the job is agreed. My prices reflect my experience, tools, and responsibility.

If you’re looking for cheap, you’re in the wrong place.

14. Is it cheaper if I pay cash? ⬇️

No. The price is the same. Cash doesn’t change the value of my time, work, knowledge, or the quality you receive. I accept cash, but I don’t promote it and I don’t discount for it.

The price reflects the job, not the payment method.

15. Another tuner offered it cheaper, can you match the price? ⬇️

No. I don’t compete on being the cheapest. If someone else is cheaper, you’re free to go there. My pricing reflects my experience, tools, time, and the way I work.

Cheap tuning exists for a reason, and I’m not interested in racing to the bottom.

16. My car is already remapped, can you tell me if the map is good? ⬇️

No. I don’t judge or comment on someone else’s work. In tuning, there are multiple correct ways to achieve the same result. Just because it’s not done the way I would do it doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

What I can confirm is whether the ECU software is modified or still stock.

If the car doesn’t run properly, then something is clearly wrong, either the map isn’t right, or the car itself has underlying issues.

17. My car has high mileage, is it safe to remap it? ⬇️

Mileage itself doesn’t matter. Condition does.
A well-maintained car with high mileage can be safer to remap than a low-mileage car that’s been neglected.

18. Do you work on cars that were previously badly mapped? ⬇️

Yes, but not over the existing map. If a car was badly mapped before, I start from a clean stock file, not from someone else’s mistakes.

Also, if the engine has mechanical problems that are not related to the remap, don’t expect the software to magically fix them. I won’t accept blame later for issues that were already there.

I tune the software. The condition of the engine remains the owner’s responsibility.

19. Can I stay and watch while you work? ⬇️

Yes, but on my terms.
You’re welcome to stay as long as you don’t get in the way.

If you have questions, keep them until I tell you it’s a good moment to ask.

20. Do you test or repair ECUs? ⬇️

No. I don’t test or repair ECUs.
Proper ECU testing requires specialised equipment that I deliberately don’t invest in, because in most cases it’s not cost-effective for the customer. Very often it’s cheaper to replace the ECU than to pay for testing and repair.

That’s also why I don’t repair them. Replacement is usually faster, cleaner, and more reliable. Even after a repair, most customers don’t fully trust the old ECU anyway.

21. Why didn't you answer my call? ⬇️

If you call from a private number, or your number is marked as spam / scam, I don't answer.

If you really need my services, there's no reason to hide your number. I need to know who I'm speaking to, basic professionalism and safety.

If your number isn't hidden and isn't flagged, then I probably didn't answer because I was working. Please leave a message (WhatsApp / SMS) and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

22. Do you offer finance? ⬇️

No. I don't offer finance for any of my services.

23. Do you have a dyno? ⬇️

No, I don’t have a dyno.

A dyno can be a useful tool, but it’s not a requirement for a correct or safe remap. A proper remap is about correct calibration: fuel, boost, torque, limits, and protections, not just chasing peak numbers on a screen.

Dyno results can vary a lot depending on the dyno type, calibration, weather conditions, tyres, and how the car is strapped down. The same car can produce very different figures on different dynos, which makes dyno numbers more about comparison and marketing than absolute truth.

I focus on proper calibration, diagnostics, data logging, and real-world behaviour. When the software is calibrated correctly, the car will perform as expected everywhere, not just on a dyno roller.

24. Do you remap gearboxes? ⬇️

Not at the moment.

Gearbox tuning is a different area and I don’t offer it yet. I prefer to add services only when I can do them properly, not half-ready. It is something planned for the future, but for now my focus is on ECU software.

25. Why didn’t I get a reply to my quote request? ⬇️

If a quote request is sent without selecting a service or providing enough details, I don’t reply.
A quote request with empty fields or missing information doesn’t tell me what you actually want.

I don’t guess services or chase customers for basic details.
If you want a response, select the required service and provide the necessary information so I can give you an accurate quote.

Incomplete requests are ignored.

26. Why didn’t you get back to me after our phone call? ⬇️

In most cases, it’s because I asked for the vehicle registration number to be sent by message and it wasn’t.

If details like the registration are given only over the phone, I can’t rely on memory, I need them written so I can check the correct information properly.

If the requested details are not sent by message (SMS or WhatsApp), I have nothing to verify and no way to continue, so I don’t follow up.

If you want me to get back to you, make sure you send the details I asked for. Without them, the process stops there.
