FRM Repair (BMW / Mini)
What is the FRM module?
The FRM (Footwell Module) controls multiple body and comfort functions, including:
-
Exterior and interior lights
-
Electric windows
-
Electric mirrors
-
Hazard lights / turn signals
-
Central locking (in some cases)
Common FRM failure symptoms
If the FRM becomes corrupted or blocked, you may experience one or more of the following:
❌ Electric windows not working
❌ Headlights or rear lights not working or staying on
❌ Indicators not functioning
❌ Electric mirrors inoperative
❌ No communication with the FRM on diagnostics
❌ Multiple lighting or body control fault codes
❌ Issues appearing after a flat or disconnected battery
Common causes of FRM failure
In most cases, the FRM is not physically damaged, but the internal memory becomes corrupted due to:
🔋 Completely flat or weak battery
🔌 Voltage drops or unstable power supply
⚡ Incorrect jump starting
💻 Interrupted coding or software update
🚗 Vehicle standing unused for a long period
What I do
✔️ Read FRM EEPROM / FLASH memory
✔️ Repair corrupted data
✔️ Restore full module functionality
✔️ Keep original VIN and vehicle configuration
Benefits compared to replacing the FRM
💷 Much cheaper than a new module
⏱️ Fast turnaround time
🔐 Original VIN and coding retained
♻️ No additional coding in most cases
🚗 No vehicle required
Important information
❌ Modules with physical damage (water ingress, severe short circuit) cannot be repaired
🔋 A healthy battery is required before refitting the module
